Defining Features of the Statue: This is a unique and rare
design that was commissioned from a photograph in a book. Shiva is
standing with his 8 arms holding a variety of weapons and symbols including a
hammer, antelope, skull bowl, a human body and spoon. His hips are wide
and feminine. He wears an elaborate head dress.
The base is unique in that there are two prongs sticking up and two holes.
These are used for temple processions where the statue of the god is paraded
around the village by the temple priests. Wood or bamboo poles are inserted
through the holes of the base and then strapped to the base of the statue using
rope by circling the prongs. Then the poles are lifted onto the temple priest
shoulders and the god is suspended above the priests and walked around the
village.
Care: The piece can be used both indoors and outdoors. Dust the
piece regularly. If you would like the piece to shine use a cotton cloth with
some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the statue.
