Defining Features of the Ganesh Statue:  Ganesh with lion vahana is called "Kana drishta Ganapathi", and is a form of the God believed to have been instituted by Sage Agastyar, to ward off evil. If you look closely at the periphery of his halo, you will notice that it is encircled by eyes. This wonderful representation of Lord Ganesh depicts him with 8 arms each holding a weapon or spiritual device with a lion as his vehicle or vahana. A lion is usually associated with Ganesh's mother, Parvati. Ganesh makes a habit of borrowing from his parents as he is often seen with cobras which are usually associated with his father, Shiva. In this statue he has a ring of cobra heads that make up the godly halo behind his head. He also shows his belt which is actually a cobra strung around his large mid section. His eight arms hold a (clockwise) long trident, knife, chakra, elephant goad, noose, conch, club and fire or Agni. The trident is a separate piece and can be removed. The club is set so that you can spin it as a form of puja or worship.
